“Prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God,” – St. John Damascene.
Prayer is a way of talking to God and the saints. Prayer may be formal or informal, verbal or nonverbal, active or contemplative. Prayer is communicating with God.
Our communication with God can be expressed in a variety of ways. We communicate with God using words and songs, in silence, ritually, or spontaneously. We can pray in church, at home, in bed as the first thing we do when we wake, and as the last thing we do as we drift off to sleep.
“Prayer enlarges the heart until it is capable of Containing God’s gift of himself,” – Mother Theresa.
