We are blessed to have two Catholic Primary Schools in Catholic Cathedral Parish.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School – 375 Manchester Street, Christchurch
St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School – 370 Innes Road, Mairehau, Christchurch
Preference of Enrolment
Enrolment with Preference at our Catholic Primary Schools is granted where the child is baptised in the Catholic Church.
If your child is baptised Roman Catholic then you are seeking Preference of Enrolment under criteria 5.1. You need to bring your child’s Catholic Baptism Certificate to the parish office and a Preference Certificate will be issued from there.
If either of the child’s parents are baptised Roman Catholic then you are seeking Preference of Enrolment under criteria 5.3. You will need to make a time to meet with one of the priests of Catholic Cathedral Parish. Phone the parish office 379 1068 for this to happen.
When you sign your child’s Preference Certificate you are agreeing to pay the Diocesan Attendance Dues in full each year. You are also signing that you are aware that the parish and the school share information.
There are other circumstances that may result in a child being accepted with Preference into the school:
- The child’s parents / guardians have already allowed one or more of its siblings to be baptised in the Catholic faith.
- At least one parent is a Catholic, and although their child has not yet been baptised, the child’s participation in the life of the school could lead to the parents having the child baptised.
- With the agreement of the parents, a grandparent or other close relative undertakes to actively support the child’s formation in the faith and practices of the Catholic Church. This would involve an active and close on-going relationship between this significant adult and the child.
- One or both of the child’s non-Catholic parents is preparing to become a Catholic.
If you think you may fall into one of these special categories, please speak with one of the priests and they will arrange a time to talk with you about this.
Non-Preference Enrolment If you do not meet any of the above criteria you will need to apply to the school to go on their non-preference waiting list.
Catholic Primary School Attendance Dues & Catholic Special Character Contributions
2021 ATTENDANCE DUES INCREASE
Attendance Dues are a charge payable to the Proprietor of the School (The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch) and are a condition of enrolment at integrated schools. The Parish (Catholic Cathedral Parish) collects the attendance dues on behalf of the Diocese for all children attending either St Mary’s or St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary Schools. Dues are not a donation, and they are not tax deductible.
The income from attendance dues can only be used for costs associated with the provision of school land and buildings. Attendance Dues fund the borrowing required to provide new classrooms not funded by the Government. Attendance dues are also used to pay other building-related costs such as Projects, Insurance, Building Warrants of Fitness and debt/loan servicing.
The level that Attendance Dues are set is reviewed annually.
Bishop Paul Martin SM has authorised that Attendance Dues for Diocesan Primary Schools be increased from $320 per year to $362 per year for 2021. A copy of the letter from Bishop Paul is available here
Accordingly, we now advise that the rates for the 2021 school year will be:
|Year||Diocesan Primary School Attendance Dues (inc GST)||Special Character Contribution (no GST) – tax deductible.||Total per child per year|
|2021||$362.00 per annum||$50.00 per annum||$412.00|
The Catholic Special Character Contribution (CSCC) helps cover the costs associated with the delivery of professional development services in support of the Catholic Special Character in Catholic Primary Schools. This is set at $12.50 per child per term and is exempt from GST and is tax deductible. There is no increase to the Catholic Special Character Contribution for the 2021 year.
